What are 5311 and 5307 Funds?

The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) provides grants to local and public transit systems across the country.  Each year, FTA partners with state and local governments to invest $11 billion in enhancing public transit.  In Oregon, the two primary sources of FTA funding are called 5311 Formula Grants for Rural Areas and 5307 Formula Grants for Urbanized Areas. These grants are allocated based on a complex formula that takes into account population, population density, revenue hours, and more.  This could mean as much as $12.3 million for Salem-Keizer Transit, or as little as $380,000 for the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation.
